Bail
An amount of money determined by a judge during the initial appearance of a detainee before a judge. Bail is set to ensure that an individual who has been arrested will return to further legal proceedings.
Bail / Bond Forfeiture – Non-conviction
When the evidence against a defendant are not enough to convict and as a result, they are dropped. When this occurs, the defendant pays or forfeits his/her bond in lieu of going to trial.
