A criminal record, or a rap sheet, is a document that details an individual's criminal history. A criminal record may include a complete arrest history, detailed criminal charges, convictions, and records of arrests that did not result in charges or convictions.
The information in a criminal record will be about offenses that an individual committed as an adult. Juvenile criminal records in the US are sealed, in most cases. If a juvenile defendant is charged as an adult, they will likely not receive the same protections as a juvenile defendant that was charged as a juvenile.
Criminal records in the United States are a matter of public record, and to gain access to them, one must conduct research in the jurisdiction where the criminal case was handled. Due to certain pre-trial criminal history compilation requirements, criminal records reports may be incomplete.
