Hit and Run
A crime in which a driver of a motor vehicle collides with another motor vehicle, a human being or property leaves the scene of the accident without providing his/her license number, full name, and other information to a witness, a law enforcement agent or the injured party. Statutes regarding hit-and-run collisions vary between states, and they do not collide with the constitutional protection against self-incrimination. In case only property damage is involved, the driver of the vehicle can leave his/her contact information on the damaged property, and it will not be considered a violation of hit-and-run statutes (providing the owner of the vehicle files a report with the police about the accident.
