Probation

Providing partial or full relief of a sentence to a convicted individual. Probation is granted on the promise of proper and legal conduct that will be reviewed by an officer of the law. Probation leaves the convicted individual under the supervision of the court, and it can be either a suspended prison sentence (granted for good behavior) or instead of a prison sentence.
