Sentence

The punishment given to an individual who has been convicted (found guilty) of committing a crime. A sentence is given (ordered) by a judge; the judge's sentence relies of the verdict of the jury, or the judge himself, if the trial is without jury. The punishment is based on state laws/federal laws, and is based on the type of crime and the severity of the crime.
