Sex Offender Database

A database that contains information about registered sex offenders who have been convicted of committing sex crimes. Several decades ago, information about registered sex offenders was available to law enforcement officers only, but that has changed after the legislation of the Jacob Wetterling Crimes Against Children and Sexually Violent Offender Registration Act of 1994; under this federal law, sex offender must register themselves with law enforcement agencies. The law maintained the information with law enforcement agencies, and the passage of Megan's Law made information about registered sex offenders available to the public.
